UPDATE: Hunt Highway Phase 4 & Gantzel Rd Improvements Project

Construction continues as SRP and Cox utilities are relocating their overhead facilities underground from approximately Thistle Trail through Magma Road.

SRP crews are currently pulling wire through the newly installed conduit, after which the electric poles can be removed. Also, CenturyLink continues similar work to relocate their facilities from Bella Vista Road through Magma Road. Mediacom and Johnson Utilities are also conducting relocations to accommodate the project. This work is taking place off the roadway; however, there are traffic barricades set up at the shoulder to protect the work zone.

Contractor crews are currently working on New Magma Irrigation & Drainage District (NMIDD) channel improvements, with work taking place near Thistle Trail, Johnson Ranch, Quartzsite and Magma Road. This work is taking place off the roadway; however, there may be traffic barricades set up at the shoulder to protect the work zone.

Construction crews will start on the extension of Gantzel Road from Omega Drive to Hunt Highway at Johnson Ranch Boulevard January 2018. Even though most of the work will be handled off the roadway there will likely be increased truck traffic on Hunt Highway in order to complete the work. As the connection is made, traffic restrictions will be in place. Hunt Highway and Johnson Ranch Boulevard anticipate to remain open throughout the work, and completion is slated March 2018.

The Gantzel Road extension is expected to be open to traffic April 2018. Hunt Highway traffic will be routed onto Gantzel Road to allow contractor to begin work on Hunt Highway between Johnson Ranch Boulevard and Red Road.

Hunt Highway remains open for travel with one lane in each direction during this work, and business and resident access is being maintained.
